It was win number 16 for the season for Dutchman Max Verstappen. This breaks his own record of most wins in a single season, which he set at 15 races last year. Verstappen had an incredible start off the line and was immediately in front of the two Ferraris, who locked out the first row of the starting grid.

In a race that saw his teammate and hometown hero, Sergio Perez crash out attempting to overtake Charles LeClerc going into Turn 1 of the first lap, the Dutchman was his usual imperious self for the entire race.

The race would be stopped by a red flag after a serious crash by Hass driver Kevin Magnussen on lap 34.

This gave Ferrari a chance to fix the damage to LeClerc’s front wing after his lap 1 crash with Perez.

After the restart, it was a repeat of the start of the day, with Verstappen being impeccable off the line, with the best reaction time of the whole field.

It was another sterling drive for Sir Lewis Hamilton, who managed to gain four places up from his starting position of sixth. With Mercedes opting for a one stop strategy, Hamilton would have to take care of his medium tyres for the remaining 37 laps, having already done 4 laps prior to the stop.

Hamilton would display tremendous race craft and maintain second position after passing Charles LeClerc in a gutsy overtake. He would also register the day’s fastest lap, which earned him an extra point.

It was the hope of Ferrari that the hard tyre would be fastest towards the end of the race, but LeClerc was unable to make up a seven second gap and ultimately finished behind Hamilton for third.

His teammate Carlos Sainz was fourth after falling down two places from his front row start in second.

The drive of the day perhaps would be by young Brit Lando Norris. After a disastrous qualifying round that saw Norris crash out in Q1, the McClaren driver gained an incredible 12 places up from his starting position of 17th to end in fifth.

George Russell was unable to match pace with his Mercedes teammate and but did improve two places from eighth to finish in sixth place.

Daniel Ricciardo would be disappointed with his race-day pace after a P4 in qualifying, but would be extremely pleased to register points in just his second race back after he sustained a broken hand earlier in the season.

Oscar Pisatri would recover from a collision with Valterri Bottas to finish in eighth and secure a double top-ten finish for McClaren, who now occupy fourth place in the team championship, after passing Aston Martin in Austin.

Alexander Albon of Williams and Esteban Ocon of Alpine would finish in the same order as they did in qualifying but both would greatly improve on their original positions. Albon would move up from 14th to ninth, while Ocon would make a similar improvement from 15th to tenth.

Mercedes maintains their precarious 22-point lead over Ferrari in the team championship while Aston Martin was unable to regain their position from McClaren with both their drivers retiring before the end of the race.

Carlos Sainz now moves one position into fourth place in the Drivers’ championship. He is now even on points with Fernando Alonso but is ahead of the veteran Spaniard by virtue of his race win in Singapore.

The season races into Round 21 in Brazil from November 3-5.
