Jamaica’s favourite auntie and veteran broadcaster, Fae Ellington has been granted a Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Honorary Commission in the rank of Colonel.
This was done yesterday by the Governor-General for Ellington’s exceptional, sustained, and selfless contribution to national development and her unwavering support to the JDF.
Ellington’s commission is in accordance with Regulation 12 (1) of the Defence (Officers) Regulations, 1962.
The granting of honorary commissions is a well-established practice within the nations of the Commonwealth, serving to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to national institutions and uphold and promote their traditions and values.
Ellington is the second civilian to be granted this honour. Protocol expert, the late Colonel Merrick Needham was the first Jamaican civilian to be commissioned as an Honorary Colonel in 2018.
