Voting is now underway in the by-elections in St. Andrew North Western, Trelawny Southern, and the electoral divisions of Aenon Town and Morant Bay.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica is reporting that all polling stations opened on time for the by-elections.
A total of 271 polling stations have been established for voting today. Some 74,700 electors are eligible to vote, based on the May 31, 2024, voters’ list.
Voting continues until 5:00 pm, after which the preliminary counting of ballots will immediately take place at each polling station.
A total of nine candidates were initially nominated to contest the by-elections, but an independent candidate in North West St Andrew, Rohan Banks, has withdrawn from the by-election. The other two candidates are Duane Smith of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and independent candidate Carl Marshall.
JLP’s Marissa Dalrymple-Philibert and independent candidate Lloyd Gillings will battle for the Trelawny Southern constituency.
Similarly, JLP’s Suzette Barton is up against Delroy Dawson of the People’s National Party (PNP) in the Aenon Town Division of Clarendon Northern.
Meanwhile, Winston Downie of the JLP will battle Yvonne Shaw of the PNP for the Morant Bay Division of St Thomas Eastern.
