Controversial dancehall entertainer Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer will remain in police custody after being denied bail today (May 30).

The decision, handed down in the Supreme Court by Justice Andrea Thomas, is a major setback for the self-proclaimed ‘Worl’ Boss’ pending a decision in the Court of Appeal on whether they should be retried for murder.

The habeas corpus hearing was necessitated after juror misconduct led the Privy Council in mid-March to quash his 2012 conviction for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

In her judgement, Justice Thomas agreed with the prosecution that the Privy Council’s order does not amount to acquittal or a new charge.

She maintained that the deejay’s current custodial status does not infringe on the Jamaican Constitution.

Freedom also eludes Kartel’s co-accused ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, who is jointly implicated in Williams’ murder and today’s failed bail application.

Before the ruling, the matter was been moved to the chief courtroom in the Supreme Court building following increased attendance.

As a precautionary measure, security personnel from both the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) were stationed en masse outside the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston.
