Jamaican dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel is now in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) ahead of tomorrow’s highly anticipated Black on Black concert.

The so-called ‘World Boss’ touched down yesterday at the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport and was met by event promoter, Steve Parillon.

News of his pending performance has sparked mixed reactions, some expressing excitement over its potential economic benefits, while others have condemned the government for supporting the event due to Kartel’s controversial past. Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was released from a Jamaican prison in 2024 after serving thirteen years.

His murder conviction was overturned by the United Kingdom’s Privy Council. Meanwhile, the BVI Christian Council (BVICC) last Friday, March 7 issued a statement strongly criticizing the government’s financial backing of the concert.

While acknowledging that it was too late to stop the event, the BVICC urged the premier to refrain from funding similar events in the future. However, the concert promoter, Parillon defended the event, emphasizing its significance as Kartel’s first performance outside of Jamaica in over 13 years.

He has projected significant profits for businesses across the territory leading up to the concert. Other Jamaican artistes scheduled to perform include Skillibeng and Jah Vinci, along with surprise guest performances.
