A Christian minister and a well-known musician were among four people abducted in Haiti Thursday night (April 2) as they took part in an Easter service streamed live to followers via Youtube and Facebook Live.

The incident took place at the Seventh-day Adventist Gospel Kreyòl Ministry Church in Diquini, which is on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. The group was in the middle of a performance when a heavily armed man came to the stage and abducted them.

Two technicians were also taken in addition to Pastor Audalus Estimé and musician Welmyr Jean-Pierre, a well-known pianist who has performed alongside Beethova Obas, a famous Haitian musician and composer based in Europe.

The abduction took place just over two hours into the worship service titled ‘15 Days of Thanksgiving and Praise’.

In the middle of a song, Jean-Pierre is seen ducking while Estimé is looking at his Bible and a young woman continues to sing. Seconds later, all stood up as Estimé folded his arms in a sign of resistance before the men were taken. The woman was reportedly able to get away.

As of this morning (April 3), the condition of the men was not clear.

The Commission notes that concerns regarding the integrity of sections of the pipeline were identified prior to the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Subsequent post-event assessments confirmed that approximately 3 kilometres of pipeline infrastructure were significantly impacted, necessitating extensive rehabilitation works. It is worth noting that while the substantial part of Martha Brae- Salt Marsh area has been restored, more time and resources is necessary to restore pockets of the network such as this one.
