Huawei has announced the development of an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Academy in Jamaica to operate in collaboration with local universities to continue fostering Jamaican ICT experts as part of their continued partnership with the island.
Huawei Jamaica CEO, Bo Zhou, made the announcement on Wednesday (February 15) at a media appreciation event at the AC Hotel in Kingston.
“Huawei ICT Academy will operate in collaboration with local universities to provide ICT certifications for professors and students to foster Jamaican digital talent,” said Zhou
Its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program, Seeds for the Future, and has already trained 90 students since 2017.
Zhou highlighted that Huawei has been supporting the growth of the ICT sector in the region for over 15 years and has been providing telecom network equipment, IT products, and smart devices to more than 170 countries worldwide.
The CEO said: “Huawei is committed to being open and collaborative, we aim to bridge digital divides around the world, together with local governments and partners”
