Popular dancehall artist L.A. Lewis, born Horace Lewis and now self-proclaimed “Maroon Emperor” and Chief High Priest of the Nyan-Ko-Pong: Sovereign Maroon Global Tribal Nation Territories, has struck a deal for US$1.2 billion in Gold Backed Crypto.
This sum has been transferred to his wallet. The “Emperor” says this is the first of its kind, and those who sign up to The Nyan-Ko-Pong Maroon Nation will get US$100 of crypto. He says this wealth from the Global Gold Coin will be shared with the Maroon people.

Crypto in Jamaica is not illegal but is unregulated by the Bank of Jamaica. It is not recognised as legal tender. The Bank of Jamaica has developed its own regulated Central Bank Digital Currency, JAM-DEX as a Government backed alternative.
At this point in time, no specific cryptocurrency legislation exists in Jamaica but crypto trading falls under the Banking Services Act and Securities Act.
In Jamaica, crypto is not explicitly prohibited and “The Emperor” may see this route as a way of financing in the future. Crypto and this Gold Backed Coin is not a fiat currency. It is a decentralised digital asset operating on blockchain technology without a central authority.
There is an acrimonious split among Maroon leaders. It is not known what the Leader of the Accompong Richard Currie, widely recognised as legitimate, makes of this crypto deal.

The DJ and Dancehall artist L.A. Lewis launched his own constitution in October 2025, declaring he now has sovereign authority and now leads a global government.
The Leader of the Accompong Richard Currie has dismissed L.A. Lewis as a charlatan and does not recognise him as a citizen of the sovereign territory.
When he was declared Leader in 2021, Currie said of the self-proclaimed “ Emperor”: “ Horace Lewis a-k-a La Lewis is NOT a government official of Accompong nor is he recognised via our records as a citizen of Accompong.
“This individual has no delegation of authority to transact business for the State nor bestow titles of nobility.”
