CIGA Records, a Jamaican talent agency and record label, is on a mission to take authentic reggae and dancehall music to larger markets worldwide with the recent signing of dancehall and reggae artistes Beenie Man and Shane-O.

The idea behind CIGA was birthed from the passion of founder Shawn, “Ciga” Baptiste, a native of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. Baptiste, a successful entrepreneur and reggae enthusiast, decided to start the label after receiving encouragement from reggae legend, Beres Hammond.

Speaking at a launch event held at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Thursday (March 16), Baptiste revealed that expanding the global reach of Jamaican music requires discipline and a unified approach by the industry.

Baptiste is also expanding the offerings of the Jamaican-based company, including the pending launch of his clothing line under the Caribbean Boyz brand.

The highlights of the event were musical-teaser performances by stars including Alaine, Beenie Man, Yaksta, Shane-O, and Kibaki.

The Caribbean Boyz Link Up Music Project, anchored by the title track and corresponding music video, features singles from Alaine, Yaksta, Bounty Killa, Beres Hammond, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Natural Blacks, and dancehall’s newest sensation, Valiant.
