Netflix today (October 27) released the official teaser for the upcoming gothic, horror, crime film The Pale Blue Eye, which tells the story of a detective investigating a murder in the United States Military Academy with the aid of a young cadet, Edgar Allan Poe.

The movie is directed by Scott Cooper and stars Christian Bale as Detective Augustus Landor and Harry Melling as Edgar Allan Poe.

The description reads, “West Point, 1830. A world-weary detective is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe.“

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer and poet in the 1800s, credited as the inventor of the detective fiction genre and famous for the dark subject matter in his writing such as in his most famous poem, ‘The Raven’.

The Pale Blue Eye will be available for streaming on Netflix on January 6, 2023.
