Bringing an end to her undefeated streak in 2023, St Lucian sprinter Julian Alfred has bested Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100m race at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, on Tuesday, July 18.

Richardson, who recently edged ahead of Jamaican sprint champion Shericka Jackson to capture the gold medal at the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday, July 16, looked to be in sublime form heading into the race.

Alfred, who partially studied and trained in Jamaica, also headed into the race boasting an undefeated record in 2023 and launching her professional debut, finishing with a time of 10.89 seconds – the fourth fastest time ran this year behind times run by Shericka Jackson, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Marie-Josée TA LOU- ahead of Richardson’s 10.97 – her slowest time of the season.

Jamaican sprinter Natasha Morrison, also present in the race, placed seventh.

Alfred has stamped her name among the contenders for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, next month.
