It was a musical introduction like no other at Big Yard Studios last Tuesday (April 27) as up-and-coming country reggae artiste WesRok staged a one-of-a-kind lunch hour concert for members of the media fraternity.

The midday jam session followed closely on the heels of his recently released EP which announced to both his growing fan base and the music industry that he was ready to take on the world.

The showcase which attracted both print and electronic media created a nice buzz as it was an actual concert, a rarity in these times since due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, entertainment has been largely been shelved for over a year.

However, there was no stopping Percival Buddan better known to his fans and followers as ‘WesRok’, as the man on a musical mission, staged a stellar concert complete with backing band and backup singers as he said the time was ripe for him to let everyone know more about the genre of country reggae which will further elevate Jamaica’s status on the musical map.

Dressed to impress, WesRok donned a royal blue satin jacket with golden brocade trim, blue pants, a black inside shirt and matching black patent shoes with studs. The ensemble was completed with the requisite gold chain.

The seven-track EP dubbed Look at Me Now was released on April 23 and shows off WesRok’s musical range from ballad My Love to the heartfelt autobiographical single Poor Country Boy, which pays tribute to his humble beginning in a small district in Bog Walk, St Catherine.

These and more he brought with him on stage as he kicked off his set with Jamaica Land, a tribute to the island that moulded and made him into the man he is.

Complete with his own dance moves which he said made him feel like the country reggae star he knows he is, WesRok was on a roll as he transitioned into Proud Country Boy where the lyrics chronicled the poverty of his childhood.  “Jamaica is the apple of my eyes. Wherever I go I represent Jamaica to the best of my ability so this is the anthem of my life as I was born and bred in Swamp Lane, Bog Walk.”

Dedicating My Love to all the beautiful ladies, he was a crooner demonstrating his devotion hence he got on bended knees before changing gears and declaring all hear I’m a Winner, which got everyone in the studio bobbing along to the catchy lyrics.

An encore was demanded and WesRok complied as the popular chorus and guitar solo went over well with those present. He fittingly closed out the set with the prayerful Cover Me Jah.

The concert was a production of 360 Global Entertainment Limited. Highlights of the concert will be made available on all of his streaming platforms on social media.
