After both teams battled to a stalemate in the first Apex Test in Antigua last week, Cricket West Indies (CWI) Men’s Selection Panel has decided to name an unchanged squad for the second Apex Test match against England starting Wednesday (March 16).

The West Indies put in a strong showing against England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium where Nkrumah Bonner was named Player-of-the-Match. The in-form Jamaican scored a career-best 123 in the first innings as the West Indies scored 375 and 38 not out in the second innings on the final to help the West Indies to 147-4 chasing 286.

It is against this background that lead selector Dr Desmond Haynes reasoned that, given the encouraging performance, there was no need for change.

“It was a hard-fought first match in Antigua and we decided to stick with the same 13 players for the second match in Barbados,” Haynes said while heaping praise on the Jamaican middle-order batsman.

“Bonner demonstrated the way you should play, and we were very pleased with the way he played in the first innings and again in the second innings. It was a hard work for all the bowlers, and we were very happy with the way they stuck to the task.”
