The West Indies men’s team is finally heading home from India after a frustrating nine-day wait following their exit from the T20 World Cup.

The squad had been stranded in Kolkata since March 1st after being knocked out of the tournament. A charter flight arranged by the International Cricket Council for both West Indies and South Africa was expected to take the teams home, but repeated delays left players and staff stuck without clear travel plans.

The situation was complicated by global tensions in the Middle East and aviation regulations, which created further uncertainty around the charter flight.

Cricket West Indies eventually informed the ICC that waiting any longer was no longer practical and began working with players and partners to secure commercial flights instead.

Some members of the team have already departed India, while the remaining players and staff are scheduled to leave on Tuesday, March 10th, and Wednesday, March 11th, 2026.
