The West Indies crashed to a 323-run defeat to New Zealand and lost the three-Test series 2-0 on Sunday night at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

West Indies started the day on 43-0 chasing 462 for victory and after reaching 87-0, they spectacularly crashed to 138 all out. In another famous collapse, only Brandon King stood out with 67, following up on his first innings 63.

Fast bowler Jacob Duffy snatched 5-42 following up on his 4-86 in the first innings and spinner Ajaz Patel took 3-23. He got 3-113 in the first innings.

The tone was set on a batting paradise as New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham created history as they became the first openers in the history of Test cricket to score centuries in both innings, putting their side in a commanding position.

The Bay Oval is said to be unique, being a batting paradise early before crumbling into a treacherous batting pitch, and it did just that.

Conway, who smashed 227 and 100, became the 10th batsman in Test history to score a double hundred and a hundred in the same game.

New Zealand made 575-8 declared in the first inning and 306-2 declared in the second innings. The West Indies batted well in the first inning, making 420 as Kavem Hodge hit 123 not out.

But as usual, their inconsistency showed its ugly head again, and they succumbed to a paltry 138, chasing over 400 runs to win, losing by 323 runs.
