West Indies Women successfully defended a paltry score of 153 on Thursday (November 11), when they bowled Pakistan Women out for 116 to win by 37 runs and take an unassailable 2-nil lead in their three-match series in Karachi.

The West Indies Women won the first one-day international (ODI) by 45 runs.

The Caribbean women, preparing for the upcoming ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, owed their unlikely victory to Player of the Match Hayley Matthews, who took 4-49 and Shamilia Connell (3-18), who combined to decimate the Pakistan batting.

The pair were devastating at the end, taking the last four Pakistan wickets for five runs on 14 balls.

Omaima Sohail top scored with 27 and Javeria Khan scored 24 but Pakistan lost wickets regularly and was never able to get ahead of the West Indies bowlers, who got on top earlier and never let the hosts back into the game.

Fatima Sana (17), Muneeba Ali (17) and Sidra Amin (11) were the only other batters in double figures as the West Indies squeezed the life out of the run chase.

The West Indies should consider themselves fortunate as having been sent to bat by Pakistan, were bundled out for 153 in 45.4.

Deandra Dottin led all scorers with 34 to follow up on her career-best 132 in the first ODI on November 8. Matthews was the next best with 26 while Captain Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle each contributed 23.

Amin 2-21, Fatima Sana 2-19 and Sohail 2-25 were the main wicket-takers for Pakistan Women, who will be hoping for a better outcome in the final match scheduled for Sunday, November 14.

The West Indies are using the series as a warm-up for the ICC World Cup qualifiers set to bowl off in Zimbabwe later this month.
