WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to join end-to-end encrypted voice calls in group chats without calling all other participants.

Like Discord and Telegram, users will now receive a push notification and encounter an in-chat bubble that they can simply tap to join the conversation, instead of automatically ringing all participants when a voice chat begins.

Call controls within the group chat will also remain mid-call, allowing users to send messages at the same time. Like other personal WhatsApp messages, voice chats are end-to-end encrypted and can be joined by up to 32 participants.

This is set to be rolled out on both iOS and Android platforms in the coming weeks in the next update. The roll-out will commence with larger group chats that include between 33 and 128 participants. As a result, not all members of a group will have immediate access to this new feature.
