Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, announced today (August 8), on his Facebook page, a new screen-sharing feature now available during WhatsApp calls.
When activated, screen-sharing captures and transmits everything displayed on the user’s screen to the call recipient. With complete control over the process, users can terminate screen-sharing at any time, ensuring a seamless and secure experience.
To maintain user privacy and control, the screen-sharing feature only activates with explicit user consent.

“We’re adding the ability to share your screen during a video call on WhatsApp,” said Zuckerberg, in a short message, attached with a photo of himself and others using the feature.
Unlike platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom that remote workers and businesses heavily rely on, Whatsapp is tapping into a much wider market with users that already depend on the app for their personal communication. The convenience and familiarity with the app for most makes it likely to provide disruption to Google Meet and Zoom as the top video conferencing platforms.
The feature’s availability may vary depending on the version of Android being used and might not be functional in large group calls or for recipients using outdated WhatsApp versions.
