November deadline fast approaching for some IPhones and Androids

The UK Sun is reporting that WhatsApp is going offline for millions of iPhone and Android phones, effective November 1.

Affected users will need to either update their software or buy a new phone. The Sun reports that it is possible that many handsets may be too old to update.

As a result, users will need to get a new mobile in order to enjoy WhatsApp services. More than 40 different smartphone models are expected to be affected.

The deadline for the update is November 1, after which point WhatsApp will cease to work. For Android phone users, they will need to be running Android 4.1 or later version in order to be able to use WhatsApp while iPhone users will need to be on iOS 10 or later version to make their devices WhatsApp compatible.

Regarding Android handsets, a host of popular phones will lose access, including the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Huawei Ascend Mate. For Apple, device users will lose access on an iPhone 4 or older versions.

The Sun reports that if a user has never updated their iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus or iPhone SE (2016), they will lose access until they update. Users can update all three models to iOS 15 – the latest version – and keep access to WhatsApp.
