As vaccine hoarding, unequal access and inequity, continue to hinder the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations worldwide, the World Health Organization Foundation, will on Wednesday (April 28) launch a new global fundraising campaign to improve vaccine availability and access globally.

The campaign, which is to be called Go GiveOne, will provide everyone an opportunity to play their part in helping to vaccinate the world by making a generous monetary donation.

Go GiveOne is aiming to engage the contributions of 50 million people and is open to individuals and organisations of all sizes.

The money raised from the campaign will be given to the COVAX medical facility for use in the purchase of vaccines globally, beginning with the countries that are most in need.

The announcement of the campaign launch was made on Monday (April 26) by WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus while addressing a COVID-19 media briefing.

During his presentation, Tedros highlighted the importance of vaccines, identifying them as “one of the most powerful and transformative inventions in history”, which has over the years “push(ed) back the frontiers of disease”.
