To say that Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados is one of the most captivating world leaders of our time, as well as a gifted orator, does not do her justice.
Yes, she has a captivating cadence but that is not what is truly intoxicating. Rather, it is her articulate, frank, well researched, searing observations that single her out as an exceptional talent who has not only impressed the region, but the world.
Made with a spine of steel, she has no fear calling out bad actors. If you are not interested in joining the fight, running for cover will not help you. If you don’t get on board, she is willing to pass laws in effect helping you board the train, whether or not you want to.
In the last week, she took on the banks in Barbados, not only calling out their less-than-helpful lending behaviour and putting them on notice that laws could be enacted restricting punitive banking fees.
Watch Mia Mottley ‘s spellbinding oratory at the COP 26 Conference in Glasgow, Scotland:
Mottley does not simply speak about what can be achieved; she gives you the road map to fulfil the objective.
Yesterday, she did it again. Her straight-talking-with-a-solution delivery was on display at the opening of the COP 26 World Leaders Summit on Climate Change, in Glasgow, Scotland.
Succinctly getting down to the issue at hand, she drilled down the problem into three points, did the math for the central banks of the wealthiest countries of the world making them (and everyone else) know how meagre in fact the contribution would be, and called on those who have the power to stop talking and do more.
As Mottley asked, “When will leaders lead?”
