Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page is confirming reports from Netflix on Friday (April 2), that he will not be returning to the series for the upcoming season two, stating that his character’s single-season arc, was how the series was always intended to be.
During a recent interview with Variety magazine, Page, who played Simon Basset in the series, said though the announcement that he would not be returning for a second season might have come as a surprise to many fans of the series, he never planned on returning.
According to the British-Zimbabwean star, the role was initially pitched to him as a one season commitment and this was a large part of its appeal.

Recounting an early conversation with Shondaland producers, Page said he was told that it was “a one-season arc” with a beginning, middle, end, and that he shoud “give us a year”.
This, the star argued, was of particular interest to him as “then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit, and then the Bridgerton family rolls on”.
With his character’s storyline complete, the actor is looking forward to seeing where the show goes next.
“I have nothing but excitement for Bridgerton continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe”.
