Wigton Energy Limited, a leading independent power producer and provider of renewable energy solutions, has successfully installed and commissioned a cutting-edge solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the newly constructed Ferry Pen, St Andrew, head office of Carreras Limited.
This strategic partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
The system was supplied and installed by Wigton through its Wigton-IEC Joint Venture with Innovative Energy Company DBA IEC SPEI Limited and is being financed through a solar lease, which allows Carreras to utilise clean, renewable solar energy without the need for upfront investment.
This model offers long-term energy cost savings, budget certainty, and environmental benefits.

“We are proud to partner with Carreras on this milestone project, which demonstrates the power of solar leasing to unlock clean energy access without the burden of upfront capital,” says Gary Barrow, chief executive officer of Wigton. “At Wigton, we are committed to delivering smart, sustainable energy solutions that help Jamaican businesses lower their energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint and build resilience for the future.”
Commenting on their work together, Franklin Murillo, Managing Director of Carreras Limited, says, “This partnership with Wigton represents another important step in Carreras’ journey toward greater sustainability and operational efficiency. Investing in renewable energy aligns with our ESG commitments and strengthens our ability to operate responsibly while delivering value to our stakeholders. We’re proud to power our new head office with clean energy and contribute to Jamaica’s green energy future.”
The newly commissioned solar PV system is expected to:
- Reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 108 tonnes per year
- Deliver immediate savings on energy costs
Wigton continues to explore additional renewable energy opportunities in line with its strategy and national energy efficiency targets.
