Windies U-19 through to Super Six at ICC Cricket World Cup after dispatching South Africa

 A superb century by Zachary Carter  and magnificent bowling by Shaquan Belle propelled the West Indies Under-19s to a 55 run win over South Africa and into the Super Six stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup at the High Performance Oval, Windhoek, Namibia.

The West Indies won the toss and decided to take first strike and that they did, pilling up 234 run before being dismissed with 13 balls remaining.

Zachary Carter turned in a Man-of-the-match performance stroking a magnificent 114 runs from 109 balls, hitting eight sixes and eight fours as he provided the backbone of the innings.

Jonathan Van Lange hit 29 runs and Joshua Dorne with 20 runs were the tyer top contributors. South Africa’s JJ Bason captured 5-23 and Jason Rowles got 2-44.

When South Africa replied they faced a stubborn and well organised West Indies team and were dismissed for 179 runs, 55 short of the target in 37.4 overs.

Jason Rowles made 46 with four fours and two sixes and was supported by Lethabo Phahlamohlaka with 26 with three sixes and a four, provided some late fireworks.

West Indies Shaquan Belle tore through the batting, taking 6-40. Jakeen Pollard with 1-19 and Isra-El Morton with 1-27 supported and kept things tight.

The West Indies with their second win after beating Tanzania before losing to Afghanistan, are safely through to the next round called Super Six with four points.

Afghanistan were group winner with six points, after they win all thee games. South Africa are in third on two points with debutants Tanzania on zero losing all three games.

The West Indies will next be in action against Ireland on Sunday, January 25.
