WIP Terminal Limited, a subsidiary of West Indies Petroleum (WIP) and key player in Jamaica’s energy sector, has announced its board of directors, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth trajectory.
The board comprises a diverse group of experienced professionals who will guide WIP Terminal through its next phase of expansion and development.
Charles Chambers, CEO and Director of WIP Terminal, expressed enthusiasm about the newly formed board stating, “This distinguished group of directors brings a wealth of experience and expertise that aligns very well with our vision for growth and regional expansion. With their guidance and governance, we are well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the Caribbean energy market and further solidify our role as a key player in the region’s energy industry.”
The new board of directors is chaired by well-respected businessman and industry stalwart Gordon Shirley. Joining him and Chambers are independent directors Kurt Boothe, general manager of MDS Ltd; Amanda Levien, global finance professional; and Demetrie Adams, attorney-at-law and adjunct lecturer at the Faculty of Law, The University of the West Indies.
Rounding out the board is Tarik Felix, co-founder and head of operations at WIP Terminal.
This lineup brings together a wealth of expertise across various sectors, including petroleum, finance, law, and business development.
Gordon Shirley brings a lifetime of experience in the petroleum industry, particularly on the retail side. His involvement in his family’s gasoline service station operation and his wholesale fuel company, G.A.S. Investments, provides valuable insights into the fuel distribution sector.
Chambers brings extensive experience in investment banking, finance, and the fuel industry. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing WIP Terminal as a regional leader in fuel storage and distribution, overseeing the largest fuel bunker capabilities in Jamaica.
Tarik Felix, with over 17 years of commodity trading experience, oversees the company’s day-to-day operations in business development, logistics, and trading. His focus on expanding the fuel product line supports the company’s growth strategy.
The inclusion of independent directors Kurt Boothe, Amanda Levien, and Demetrie Adams further strengthens the board’s capabilities. Boothe brings experience from the pharmaceutical industry and as a former director of the Petroleum Company of Jamaica. Levien adds expertise in capital raising and strategic advisory while Adams, a legal expert and Chartered Director, brings valuable insights into corporate governance and risk management.
WIP Terminal has rapidly established itself as a crucial hub for petroleum product storage and distribution in the Caribbean. The company’s combined fuel storage capacity of ~750,000 barrels between its Port Esquivel (St Catherine) and Ocho Rios (St Ann) locations make it the second largest facility in the island. The company generates revenue from storage and throughput fees charged on the distribution of fuel to end-users in various industries, including shipping, fuel retailers, and manufacturers.
