Regional digital payment facilitator WiPay joins in echoing Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett’s preliminary estimates indicating that Jamaica Carnival generated over J$5 billion in revenue.

This Carnival season, WiPay facilitated tens of millions in transactions, including band sales, event tickets, food and beverage purchases, accommodation, and travel.

Kibwe McGann, chief marketing officer of WiPay Group says “WiPay’s Carnival support included a range of payment solutions tailored to removing some of the consumer and merchant payment points. For the bands we provided eCommerce plugin integrations and for the promoters and other stakeholders we provided other payment tools such as point of sale, scan-to-pay and click-to-pay invoicing.”

WiPay also observed a rise in fraudulent activities throughout the two-week Carnival window. Leveraging advanced security measures, during the period of increased transactions, WiPay successfully mitigated the impact of fraud, protecting vendors and consumers.

Reflecting on WiPay’s Cashless Carnival project in Trinidad, initiated in 2023, McGann highlighted the invaluable insights gained.

“Carnival holds significant economic importance for small island territories. Through our experience, WiPay developed consumer-tested solutions, alleviating pain points of international travellers, by providing merchants with card-ready solutions that boosted consumer spending and merchant sales.”

WiPay remains dedicated to contributing to the success and growth of the carnival industry in Jamaica and The Region.
