Digital payment solutions provider WiPay has signed a multimillion-dollar, multi-year contract with the Government of Grenada to continue providing services through the GOVPAY Digital Payment Management System.
The contract has extended the partnership between WiPay and the Grenada Government, which has already seen three successful years.
Using WiPay’s platform, the Government will issue payments for government initiatives like Uniform Grant, Book Grant, and back-to-school programmes. The GOVPAY system facilitates the instant issuance of grants at the touch of a computer key, eliminating the need for cheques or in-person collection. This reduces costs and prevents the theft of funds.
Aldwyn Wayne, CEO of WiPay, welcomed the extended collaboration of his company with the Government of Grenada.
“This new contract underscores our commitment to driving financial inclusion and providing secure, efficient payment solutions that benefit all Grenadians,” he stated.
WiPay has executed similar initiatives in other Caribbean territories before. In Point Fortin, Trinidad, WiPay enabled the distribution of digital grant money to residents who received QR codes to present at supermarkets and pharmacies for supplies. This model was mirrored in Jamaica for COVID-19 grants, assisting doctors and nurses with essential supplies.
WiPay has created business-to-government (B2G) solutions that provide significant value by streamlining their payment processes. The company works with several governments across the region – Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, and Grenada – to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs through its payments system.
Grenada’s Minister of Education David Andrew noted that the partnership with WiPay has helped the Government “move away from paper-based vouchers, and we move forward where we capitalise and benefit on technology.”
