West Indies batsman Andre Fletcher is reportedly recovering after he was struck on his neck by a short-pitched delivery while batting for Khulna Tigers in their match against the Chattogram Challengers in the 2022 Bangladesh Premier League on Monday.

Fletcher was stretchered off the field after he was struck by the delivery from Rejaur Rahman Raja during the seventh over of the Tigers’ innings. The Grenadian batsman attempted to pull the delivery, missed, and was struck on the neck.

Initial reports from the ground suggested that Fletcher, who went down in obvious discomfort, was doing okay while under observation at the ground.

“But since he was hit on the neck, we are being cautious and not taking any risks.”

Khulna manager Nafees Iqbal

Khulna manager Nafees Iqbal later revealed that Fletcher, who was batting on 16 off 12, is doing fine and was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

“Fletcher is doing well. He is also in his senses, and not feeling any problems,” Iqbal said.

“But since he was hit on the neck, we are being cautious and not taking any risks. If the doctor advises for a scan then it will be done. At the moment it’s fine.”

CHALLENGERS TOP STANDINGS

Meanwhile, Tigers (165-9) fell 25 runs short of their target of 191 set by the Chattogram Challengers at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

The win means the Challengers topped the standings with four points following what was their second win from three matches this season.
