The summer edition of the biannual FitFest Party and Expo takes place this Saturday (July 13) at the NWC Sports Club in Mona.
With scores of families and corporate teams set to participate, organisers promise an afternoon of high energy, clean entertainment and a renewed approach to healthy lifestyle habits.
“With the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), we are using FitFest to encourage Jamaican families to become more active and interested in exercising, while carrying out routines safely and effectively. We also want to connect families with healthy lifestyle choices to get them started on their wellness journey,” said Kurt Dunn CEO of BodyByKurt Fitness and chief organiser of the event.
FitFest patrons will enjoy routines from 14 of Jamaica’s best group fitness Instructors who will bring their expertise in Zumba, stick aerobics, dancehall, kickboxing, soca aerobics and more.
Dunn explained that it was important to make adopting a more active lifestyle, a fun activity for the family.
“We get feedback all the time that a big challenge is the motivation. So, we’ve designed the event to heavily feature music and dancing – things we know Jamaicans naturally love. This makes it easier to get motivated, complete the routine and remain consistent,” he shared.
In speaking to their objective of catering to the entire family, Dunn highlighted that a unique feature of FitFest is the Kiddies Village which boasts rides, snacks and enjoyment for the children. Parents can enjoy their workout while their children enjoy themselves in a fun and safe environment.
Prizes will be awarded throughout the event to top-performing patrons (males and females) in the various fitness competitions.
Dunn further added that for this edition, patrons are being asked to take along non-perishable items to donated to families impacted by Hurricane Beryl.
“This is such a difficult time for many families and so, we are asking our patrons to consider those who were less fortunate and take along some items that can help. Many persons bought extra food items and supplies. We are asking for a fraction of that to assist a family in need,” he implored.

Strong corporate support
FitFest Party and Expo has also received strong corporate support as various entities include the event in their wellness calendar for employees or mount a booth to share information about healthier meal and lifestyle options.
“We’ll have several booths focused on fitness and wellness and we are encouraging all our patrons to take advantage of the information and guidance available. Embarking on this journey is easier when you are informed and supported and that’s also what we’ll be doing this Saturday,” Dunn added.
Adult tickets to FitFest are J$2,000 presold and J$2,500 at the gate, while there is a cover of J$1,000 for children between four and 12 years.
