The only bags that should be worn are Coach or Prada…

Unfortunately, the eyes are the first area on the face to show signs of ageing, so are we praising under-eye fillers or nah?

According to Insider, these fillers are a cosmetic formula designed to add volume to the area under the eye where it may be sagging or look hollow.

And they’re very popular, especially for women.

To be precise, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, about 3.4 million procedures involving fillers were performed in 2020.

However, I suggest keeping in mind if eye fillers are right for you, as many really don’t need eye fillers to improve any aspect of health.

They are a purely superficial treatment for people who may feel self-conscious about the appearance of their eyes.

Therefore, here are a few ‘need to knows’ about under eye filler, including the preparation and aftercare for the procedure.

What is under-eye filler?

Under-eye filler is a non-surgical procedure, it’s considered as an injectable.

According to American plastic surgeon and creator of the M.A.D.E facelift, Andrew Jacono, the contents of the injected fluid most often contain a base of hyaluronic acid that’s inserted directly into the under-eye area.

Fun fact: If you are actually thinking of getting an under-eye filler, here’s the harsh truth, the filler is just a temporary fix.

Therefore, there will be a need for a follow-up procedure every six to 18 months.

Still want to try the filler to maintain this new and young look? By all means, have your heart’s fill of them.

Dr Jacono says the typical cost of under-eye filler is US$1,000, but the price may be higher or lower based on how many syringes of filler are used as well as your geographical location.

Benefits of under-eye filler

  • Restores volume under your eyes immediately making the eyes looking full and lush.
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines around the eyes. #Wrinklesfree
  • Corrects the darkness under your eyes-hyperpigmentation where?
  • Helps balance the face
  • Makes you look younger

Okay, these benefits are a surely convincing!

Insider further shared that the procedure is simple, including the prep time and recovery, however, the publication also suggests doing research beforehand. Dr Jacono advises potential patients to make sure the doctor they choose is well-credentialed and can share before and after photos.

No botched job

Before the procedure

Once the procedure is scheduled, the most important thing to do is to discontinue any prescribed or over-the-counter use of blood thinners or medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen as well as supplements like fish oil and Vitamin E.

Dr Jacono advises that it’s very much ideal to steer clear of alcohol the night before the procedure to minimise bruising.

During the procedure

Reportedly, before the injections begin, numbing cream will be applied and this is an optional choice.

If the patient chooses to apply numbing cream, the doctor will wait until the area is numb before starting the procedure.

According to Dr Jacono, “The doctor will inject small amounts of hyaluronic acid filler into the depressed area under each of your eyes.”

Once the hyaluronic acid filler is injected under the eyes, the procedure should be done within minutes.

After the procedure

Dr Jacono advises that patients give themselves up to 48 hours to recover after doing this operation, especially since there might be mild bruising and swelling around the eyes.

To further solidify Dr Jacono’s suggestion, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recommends avoiding intense physical activity for 24-48 hours after getting any type of filler. Other than that, you can resume normal activity right away.

Filler risks

It’s not rare for eye fillers to cause serious problems, but there are possibilities of side effects that includes:

  • Acne-like skin eruptions
  • Asymmetry (lopsidedness around the eye)
  • Bleeding from the injection site
  • Bruising
  • Damage to the skin that results in a wound and possible scarring
  • Infection at the injection site
  • Lumps
  • Palpability of the filler under the surface of the skin
  • Skin necrosis (ulceration or loss of skin from disruption of blood flow)
  • Skin rash with itching
  • Skin redness
  • Swelling

Again, guys, we stress the importance of finding a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who has experience performing injectables, whether on the island or out.

This is to minimize the risks and ensure that any potential patient receives the best care and optimal results.
