Kanye West, now simply known as Ye, during his recent Drink Champs interview announced that rapper Beanie Sigel coined the name Yeezy, which he now uses for his brand.
The rapper explained that, while at Baseline, Sigel would refer to him as Yeezy.
“Yeezy was Beanie’s name for me when I was at Baseline. On some like ‘That’s Yeezy’ … make him one of us. He let me wear his State Property chain. He really just embraced me.”
He added that people took a liking to him and, during volatile situations, would tend to give him nicknames.
Ye explained that, since then, he has made efforts to try and compensate Sigel for his idea, which is now a billion-dollar brand.
“I still owe Beanie money, and I been trying to give him this money for a minute. I been trying to give it to him … this man-made up the name.”

The Philadelphia rapper over the weekend, visited a hometown club where he shared with the crows that Ye offered him $50 million as well as part ownership of the brand.
“I got a call from (Kanye) the other day, he said ‘Sig I owe you 50 million dollars and 5 per cent stock in Yeezy,”. The rapper also added that the Adidas brand made $1.7 billion in sales just last year.
