A police constable was shot dead in Portmore St Catherine on Friday night.

The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Student Constable Rushane Nelson, was shot outside a premises in Greater Portmore by an unknown assailant at approximately 11:30.

He was reportedly sitting in his motor vehicle awaiting a companion to attend a party when a man on foot approached and shot him multiple times.

The man escaped the scene on foot.

Nelson was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
