Young Jamaica| Brown-Burke stoking public discontent with Indian arrival in Jamaica

Many Jamaicans are perplexed on how a bunch of Indians found themselves stranded in Jamaica and are looking for more forthcoming information.

Young Jamaica, the Youth Arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), is concerned about the quality of oversight being provided by the Opposition People’s National Party’s (PNP).

Yesterday’s statement by the opposition spokesperson on foreign and regional affairs, Dr Angela Brown-Burke, on the flight from India has again demonstrated the willingness of the Opposition to discard prudence and fact-finding in favour of political gamesmanship.

Instead of conducting the necessary checks, the PNP’s Party chairman opted to quickly allege failure of the Government in an effort to score political points.

A responsible Opposition would have liaised with the relevant authorities to understand the situation rather than stoking public discontent.

Minister of National Security Horace Chang

From a press release provided by the Ministry of National Security earlier today, Young Jamaica and the wider Jamaican public now understands that the USC GmbH flight with 253 passengers was permitted to land Thursday, May 2, 2024, in compliance with aviation regulations.

However, upon further checks, the authorities discovered two individuals who were not accounted for in the manifest and, as a result, they were refused formal entry into Jamaica.

While investigations were being conducted in a clandestine manner to establish the facts, the passengers were moved to the ROK Hotel at the cost of the charter flight company.

While at ROK and in downtown Kingston, the passengers were properly supervised by the security forces. We further understand that the passengers will depart Jamaica tomorrow, May 7, 2024, at 6:30 AM.

Young Jamaica praises the Ministry of National Security’s prompt and its comprehensive response to Dr Brown Burke’s public questions.

“Though I am disappointed, I am not surprised. The PNP under the leadership of Mark Golding has deteriorated the political climate.

The people of Jamaica deserve a responsible Opposition that genuinely cares and understands its role beyond narrow political interests.” – president Rohan Walsh.

We call upon all well-thinking Jamaicans to see the PNP for what they are — power-hungry, single-minded and not able nor willing to do the work that the people of Jamaica have assigned to them.
