Cautions former PNP Candidate against salacious allegation to distract from tax fraud scandal engulfing PNP Region 3 Chairman’s company

Young Jamaica, the youth arm of the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP),  is disappointed with word that Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) President and former People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament candidate for Western St. Thomas, Mark Malabver, has not furnished the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information (MOESYI) with evidence to support a claim he made this week that some people sheltering at schools in Jamaica have been having sexual intercourse in the presence of students.  

The MOESYI has indicated that Malabver has not provided evidence to support his allegation, despite having active communication with Government Ministries and ignoring repeated requests to divulge the information.   Malabver’s reported move not to provide particulars, including the name of the school he alleges this activity took place, is most disappointing and irresponsible.

We urge Malabver to immediately furnish the MOESYI, the, Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and respective child care authorities with details to support the allegations he made.   Young Jamaica wishes to remind the JTA President and former PNP candidate for West St. Thomas that he has an obligation under Jamaican law to file a report if he is in possession of knowledge of children being exposed to a crime.

Causing students to experience indecent exposure in a public space would no doubt amount to a breach of law. Therefore, if Mr. Malabver has knowledge of such activities, he is duty-bound to provide details to the relevant authorities.   Young Jamaica is encouraging Malabver to, in his conduct of his role as JTA President, ensure that there is no appearance that he is using the post to burnish the agenda he, up until very recently, publicly advanced as a self-described devout PNP member and candidate for Western St. Thomas.  

Young Jamaica sincerely hopes that the outlandish and sensational claim made by the JTA President is not an attempt to distract from the tax exemption scandal which has placed the PNP leadership under pressure and engulfed the Party’s Region 3 Chairman, whose company the Auditor General found was the beneficiary of an unlawful and inappropriate process which involved public funds.
