The youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Young Jamaica, is calling for opposition leader Mark Golding to come clean to the Jamaican people regarding his British citizenship and ancestry once and for all.

This revelation by Golding during a local television interview that he still holds a valid United Kingdom passport. Golding has come under public scrutiny after he disclosed to the media that he holds dual citizenship with Jamaica.

“It is in the best interest of transparency and accountability that Golding gives the Jamaican population the whole truth regarding his citizenship and ancestry, if he really intends to put this matter to rest,” Young Jamaica said.

“It is unacceptable and inexplicable that Golding has put himself forward as the leader in a major political party for the past 4 years, and only just now are Jamaicans being informed that he has allegiances to a foreign power as a British citizen. The country is essentially is not aware of his antecedents or true loyalties,” it added.

Young Jamaica said that in light of Golding’s decision not to renounce his British citizenship and Jamaica’s current pursuit of republican status, Golding must reveal the genesis of his British background and share his family history with the Jamaican people.
