Jamaica’s Under-17 footballers defeated Liga Premier Team 3-1 on Wednesday courtesy of a hattrick by Seymour Reid and reached the quarterfinal of the Torneo Del Sol in Mexico.

It was Reid’s fifth goal in three games having scored a double in Jamaica’s 2-0 win over Seleccion Bajio 3-2 in their opening game on Monday.

The prolific striker, who was born in Jamaica, represents New York City FC. He was featured as the Major League Soccer Next Fest: Under-16 Players to Know.

The young Reggae Boyz will now face the Metropolitan Team hunting a spot in the semi-final as they continue their preparations for World Cup qualification next month.

In the other games, the Mexico Under-17 national team will face Seleccion Central; Panama versus Seleccion Occidente and Liga Premier take on Liga TDP.

Jamaica lost 2-0 defeat to Selection North Under-19s in their second match and finished the four-team group on six points.

The Reggae Boyz are in preparation mode for the CONCACAF Qualifiers in Guatemala next month. Jamaica have been to two Under-17 FIFA World Cups in 1999 and 2011 and are fancied to reach their third after being paired with El Salvador, St Lucia and the Cayman Islands.

Jamaica will look to capitalize on the expanded format of the FIFA Men’s Under-17 World Cup which will see an increase from 24 to 48 teams with eight spots from CONCACAF.

Three other national teams are competing in the Torneo del Sol as Guatemala, Panama and host Mexico are all preparing for the World Cup qualifiers.
