Youth Ambassador applications open for young Jamaicans to vie for new appointments

Six Jamaicans between ages 18 and 27 are to be selected for the 2022-2024 cohort of the Jamaica Youth Ambassadors Programme (JAYAP).
The selected youth ambassadors will represent CARICOM, the Commonwealth or the United Nations General Assembly over the two-year period, as well as articulate the concerns of Jamaican youth by raising relevant issues with policymakers and planners at the national, regional and international levels.
With the Ministry of Education and Youth now accepting applications for the JAYAP, persons selected will be required to have a demonstrable record of leadership; be of sound moral probity and character; have a demonstrable track record of participation in community youth development programmes; have excellent knowledge in youth development best practices and policies and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

The youth ambassadors will be required to organise and conduct social intervention sessions with young people across the island; conduct virtual and or physical empowerment sessions and consultations, in keeping with portfolio areas and the National Youth Policy and provide analysis of national and international youth development trends, challenges and opportunities.
Programme Manager Ruth Lawrence said JAYAP was established in 2000 as a strategy to promote youth advocacy and facilitate youth participation in decision-making processes.

- A completed application form along with proof of birth, two written references, a professional passport-sized photo and JAYAP Service form, should be submitted to the Jamaica Youth Ambassadors Programme, Attention: Ruth Lawrence, Programme Manager, Ministry of Education and Youth, 2-4 National Heroes Circle, Kingston 4.
- The deadline for submission is 11:59 pm Saturday, May 12.
