Twenty-one-year-old Akiel Lynch, a labourer from Vineyard, St Elizabeh has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery with aggravation, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
According to reports from the Maggotty Police, around 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2024, Lynch, along with three armed accomplices, entered an establishment and robbed an occupant of three cartons of cigarettes, phone cards, and an undetermined sum of cash.
During the robbery, a licensed firearms holder intervened but was shot by the men. The group then fled the scene on foot.
The police were alerted and the injured man was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as 62-year-old Aggrey Atkinson, a businessman from Balaclava, St Elizabeth.
Lynch was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is scheduled to appear in the St Elizabeth Parish Court on Friday, December 6.
