85.8% of students who sat PEP placed in the school of choice says Williams

Minister of Education Fayval Williams says 85.8 per cent of students who sat the Grade Six Primary Exit Profile examination was placed in schools of their choice.

The Minister made the announcement during a virtual press conference held today (June 23).

“A total of 36,105 students were registered to sit the 2023 Grade Six PEP exam, of that 18,452 were males and 17,653 were females,” Williams shared.

She noted that a majority of the student were from public schools which accounted for 31,798.

Students’ scores were generated based on the combination of the 2022 Grade Five Performance Task examination, the Grade Six Ability Test, the Performance Task in Mathematics and Language Arts and the curriculum-based test.

The education minister noted that the students were placed at secondary schools based on choice or preference, proximity, manual and other factors such as students who indicated that they did not want placement.

Some 30,984 students (5.8 per cent) were placed in schools according to their choice 4,134 (11.5 per cent) students were placed in schools that are in proximity to the schools that currently attend, 566 students (1.57 per cent) were placed manually.

8,105 students were placed at schools of their first choice, 5,432 were placed at their second choice, 4,378 at their third choice, 3,962 at their fourth choice, 3,426 at their fifth choice, 3,435 at their sixth choice and 2,246 their seventh choice.

Parents, educators and students are set to receive the official PEP results today by 2:00 p.m.
