The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has renewed its call for the resignation of Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) Chairman Mayor Andrew Swaby and PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell, as the corruption scandal engulfing the operation of the KSAMC deepens.

The scandal is reportedly being probed by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (МОСА).

Member of Parliament for St Andrew West Central, Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, said this investigation is quite appalling while claiming that the KSAMC needs new leadership.

“The statement to MOCA given by an individual who was in the bowels of the PNP is troubling. Quite frankly, the fact that the corporation Mayor Swaby leads is mired in this corruption scandal means that fresh leadership is required in order to give the Jamaican people confidence in the way the affairs of the corporation are being operated,” Flynn said.

She also charged that Campbell has not adequately clarified a voicenote which leaked of him regarding the funding of PNP representatives before the by-election held in November 2024

“And I have also taken note that Dr Dayton Campbell, the PNP General Secretary, has not satisfactorily addressed a voicenote which leaked into the public domain, where he was heard responding to an inquiry from the PNP caretaker Lawrence Rowe about why more KSAMC resources were not spent among the PNP representatives in Central Kingston.

“Campbell said that this was being done for strategic purposes, and more money was being spent where it was anticipated that by-elections would be called. For several months now, Dr Campbell has not given a satisfactory explanation for his comment, and his position is also untenable,” Flynn added.

He emphasised that the project’s groundbreaking ceremony symbolises literally and figuratively a new phase of growth, opportunity and national ambition. “The commencement of the Westlands Expansion Project represents a vision that is materialising,” Holness said.
