Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, has underscored the critical role of the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo.) in safeguarding Jamaica’s tourism experience, as the organisation marks its 30th anniversary.
Speaking during a live Outside Broadcast on Radio Jamaica 94 FM’s Hotline programme with host Emily Shields, the Minister highlighted TPDCo’s central role in coordinating the many elements that define Destination Assurance.
“TPDCo has the responsibility to coordinate with all of these players to make sure that the promise of a safe, secure and seamless experience is never second-guessed,” Minister Bartlett said.
He explained that Destination Assurance requires the alignment of multiple sectors, including health, sanitation, safety, environmental management and infrastructure, all working together to deliver a high-quality tourism product.
The Minister further emphasised that resilience remains the foundation of Jamaica’s tourism success, noting the sector’s ability to withstand and recover from global and local disruptions.
“Resilience is the bedrock of the tourism industry because of its vulnerabilities to shocks… the capacity to recover quickly, to mitigate, and to thrive afterwards – those are the touchpoints of resilience, and Jamaica has shown that,” he added.
Minister Bartlett pointed to Jamaica’s long-standing track record of resilience, from recovering after natural disasters to rebounding strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading global destination.
As TPDCo celebrates three decades of service, the Minister’s remarks highlight the organisation’s enduring impact in strengthening tourism standards, enhancing visitor experiences, and supporting national development.
The anniversary milestone is being commemorated through a series of activities including a Thanksgiving Church Service on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Grace Missionary Church and a Staff and Long Service Awards Ceremony recognising TPDCo’s contribution to building a safe, resilient and globally competitive tourism sector.
