Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has reminded all categories of income tax filers that today (March 15) is D-day for their obligation to file their annual income tax returns for 2022 and estimated returns for 2023
In a statement, TAJ said filing can be done via its tax portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm by the end of the day, as required by law.
“These categories include professionals and self-employed persons such as entertainers, doctors, lawyers, realtors, landlords, shopkeepers, barbers, hairdressers, taxi/bus operators, and others,” TAJ said.
Additionally, TAJ urged business persons to file their returns on time and avoid the J$5,000 monthly penalty for returns filed after the due date.
“Though income tax filers are required by law to file their returns online, they have the option to choose how they make their payments. These options include via the TAJ’s tax portal, using a credit card or other bank card with credit card features; Direct Funds Transfer; NCB [National Commercial Bank] Online, and most recently Scotia Online or mobile app,”TAJ noted.
According to TAJ, “all companies, organisations, self-employed persons, as well as employed persons with additional sources of income or multiple employment, are being reminded to file using the forms related to the particular year and business category”.
