

Franklin Khan, Trinidad and Tobago’s minister of energy and energy industries, is being remembered today as “a tireless servant of his country”.
Khan, who had a history of heart ailments, died this morning at his home.
In a statement, Communications Minister Symon de Nobriga said: “It is with a deep sense of sadness that we announce the death of Minister of Energy and Energy Industries the Hon Franklin Khan. Minister Khan passed away peacefully at home early this morning.
“The Government of Trinidad and Tobago extend our sincerest condolences to his family at this time and will keep them in our collective thoughts and prayers.”
KHAN SERVED IN SEVERAL CAPACITIES
Khan was a former chairman of the People’s National Movement (PNM) and served as minister of works and transport from 2002 to 2005, and as member of parliament for Ortoire/Mayaro from 2002 to 2007.
“In 2015, he was appointed as the Minister of Rural Development and Local Government by Prime Minister Keith Rowley and in 2016, he was appointed as the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries,” the communications minister continued.
“Frankie will be remembered as a tireless servant of his country, this Government and the PNM.”
“The Prime Minister is extremely saddened by the passing of his colleague and friend who will be remembered as a man who dedicated his life to public service.”

In a statement, the Office of the Prime Minister of Trinidad said Rowley was mourning the loss of a patriot and son of the soil.
“The Prime Minister is extremely saddened by the passing of his colleague and friend who will be remembered as a man who dedicated his life to public service,” the statement read.
OPPOSITION LEADER SADDENED
In her own statement, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she was saddened to learn of Khan’s death.
“Mr Khan dedicated much of his life in service to his country, and his contributions over a period of almost two decades as a member of parliament, a minister of government in varying capacities in two PNM administrations and as a Senator, are laudable,” she said.
Similar tributes poured in from several other individuals and entities, including the United States Embassy in Port of Spain and the CARICOM Secretariat.
