Dunbeholden won their second Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match of the season on Saturday (July 24) when they stopped Molynes United 3-1 at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the University of the West Indies.
Kimoni Bailey scored a brace in the 25th and 66th minutes, as Rodave Murray scored in the 21st for Dunbeholden’s victory. Nicholas Nelson got Molynes’ goal in the 71st.
Dunbeholden leapt four places, from ninth to fifth in the points standings with the victory as they are on six points from five matches. Molynes, on two points, remained rooted in 10th position as they only lead Humble Lion who have lost all their four matches.
Dunbeholden opened the scoring when Murray tapped in a cross from the right by Atapharoy Bygrave and then increased the tally when Bailey while losing his footing, fired home a left-side Murray cross.
Bailey further increased Dunbeholden’s lead as he slotted home from a good build-up before Nelson got Molynes’ consolation goal after dismissing his marker in the penalty box.
According to Dunbeholden’s assistant coach Ricardo Smith, the players performed the tasks that coach Harold Thomas requested and plan to use this as the standard for the rest of the season.
“We have to be pleased with the result as the intention was to come out and press them and try to get goals and we did exactly what was asked for.
“It can only be up for us. Fifth with just six points that’s not bad but we started poorly the first four games as we only got one win and one goal and in the fifth game we got three goals, so we can only look up with that performance,” Smith said.
Assistant coach of Molynes Andre Daley believes the rain that fell during the encounter and the artificial turf contributed to their loss.
“We didn’t get a good start in the game as we came out and were on the back foot. They wanted the victory more than us.
“Both of us played in the rain and we are not used to the surface as yet so it is going to take time for us to get used to the surface. We came out with a plan which we tried to execute but we didn’t do it 100 per cent,” Daley said.
