Barbados is joining Jamaica in getting more flights out of the United States to the Caribbean tourist destination, which is now in full bloom, as the island recovers from the pandemic lull.

As a result, more American major carriers have ramped up their services to the Eastern Caribbean island destination, intending to cash in on the growing popularity of the island among American and other visitors. American Airlines and JetBlue Airways have both announced additional flights to and from Barbados.

This summer, American Airlines is launching an additional daily flight between Miami and Barbados between August 15 and September 5, adding a total of three daily flights between the two destinations during the period.

This winter, American Airlines is also resuming its service between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Barbados with daily flights kicking off on December 21.

That route will extend through the peak winter travel season to April 3, 2024, although it will operate five times each week January 8, 2024 and March 4, 2024. In the case of JetBlue, the carrier just extended its second daily flight between New York’s John F Kennedy Airport and Barbados through to October.

This route had been slated to end in September but thanks to surging demand, it has been kept active for another month. Another American carrier, United Airlines’ recently announced year-round service to the island from both Washington, DC and Newark.

The wave of new flights is a strong signal of the island’s post-pandemic recovery, particularly as the destination is looking to grow its visitor numbers from the all-important United States market.
