In a welcome move to encourage continued support for Jamaica’s entertainment, cultural and creative industries (ECCIs), local freight forwarding company, BluShip Cargo and Freight Limited, is set to mobilise corporate backing for the industry that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Daren Miller, executive chairman of BluShip, disclosed that a large number of his clients operate within ECCIs and that seeing the challenges, his team decided to mobilise broad support through a Corporate Linkages Media Briefing on the Trade in Cultural Goods.

Miller said “the event is designed to highlight the industry’s value to national development, provide added capacity building, access to investment and market intelligence for current and future industry players”.

Newly crowned Miss Universe Jamaica Daena Soares is slated to receive US$1 million in International Medical Travel Insurance at the event and an entire year of free shipment services courtesy of BluShip, as she prepares to compete for the title of Miss Universe, in Eilat, Israel on December 12, 2021.

“Our company has always maintained a posture of quality, in the safe and reliable movement of goods on behalf of our clients. We believe therefore, that as an ambassador of Jamaica, Daena and indeed all creative cultural ambassadors, should be given the best chance at success, with strong and sustainable corporate support, especially given the precarious situation with which we are all faced amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He said Soares’ insurance is part of the United States-based travel-medical and trip-protection insurance facility, Atlas Travel by WorldTrips; serviced locally by Caribbean Assurance Brokers Limited.

The policy will cover health checks and intensive care, crisis response, emergency dental and optical procedures, all her personal effects and any eventualities, such as trip cancellation, political evacuation, natural disaster replacement accommodation and emergency quarantine indemnity.

“BluShip is providing immense value at a critical time, especially as Daena has to travel so far away to compete at Miss Universe.”

Karl Williams, national director of Miss Universe Jamaica

In the meantime, Karl Williams, national director of Miss Universe Jamaica, expressed gratitude on behalf of Soares and the Miss Universe Jamaica organisation.

“We are ecstatic about the partnership with BluShip, which is now in its third year and growing even stronger. BluShip is providing immense value at a critical time, especially as Daena has to travel so far away to compete at Miss Universe. We are most appreciative of BluShip’s amazing courtesies.”

The media briefing will be held on November 25 from 5:30 pm -6:30 pm at the AC Hotel by Marriott in St Andrew Kingston and include remarks from Audley Shaw, minister of industry, investment and commerce; Ainsley Henriques, honorary Israeli consul to Jamaica, among others.

Members of the public are asked to join the live stream at www.blushipja.com or the official Instagram page of Miss Universe Jamaica.
