Dancehall DJ Spice has achieved yet another milestone as the year comes to a close. In its release yesterday, United States-based National Public Radio released its 100 Best Songs of 2021, ranking Spice’s Guh Down Deh in the upper half of the list. Coming in at 48, Guh Down Deh, performed with music veterans Shaggy and Sean Paul, is the lead single off the DJ’s debut album, 10.
Produced by Romanian Constantin ‘Costi’ Ioniță, the track was praised by NPR writer Otis Hart. He described the song as one of, if not her greatest hit, adding that the X-rated single generated for her some well deserved buzz.
“Spice generated deserved buzz earlier this year for releasing the first official album of her… career, but the X-rated single remains her, um, sweet spot, and Go Down Deh sits among, if not on top, her greatest hits,” Hart stated.
Hart also lauded the fact that the track held a place among the youth.
NPR is an independent, nonprofit media organisation that was founded on a mission to create a more informed public.
The Grammy-nominated artiste, who has had many new doors open for her since the release of Guh Down Deh, has seen major success in streams for the track and appreciates that the two seasoned legends, Shaggy and Sean Paul, collaborated with her.
The Queen of the Dancehall received her first Grammy nomination for 10, which is vying against releases from Sean Paul, Etana, Gramps Morgan, Jesse Royal and American band Solja in the Best Reggae Album category.
The 64th Annual Grammy Awards is set to take place on January 31, 2022 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
