Route will be operated with a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft

Caribbean Airlines (CAL) has signaled that it will be expanding its airline routes to include between Guyana and Houston, Texas in the United States.

CAL will operate seasonal service between the Guyanese capital of Georgetown and Houston Intercontinental this spring. The service will operate three times weekly from March 22 to June 30.

Trinidad and Tobago-based CAL has indicated that it is timing the service, which will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week, to enable passengers to connect to its Port of Spain hub in Trinidad and Tobago. The Houston to Guyana flight, for example, will depart at 8:20 pm and arrive at 4:35 am the following morning with a potential 1 hour. 20 minutes travel.

The Guyana to Port of Spain connecting flight will depart at 5:50 am. The Houston to Guyana route will be operated with a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

CAL took delivery of the first of 12 MAXs it has on order in January. CAL, which is co-owned by the Jamaican Government and is the largest airline in the Caribbean region, said Guyana has a “need for additional airlift”.

Positive comments on the new route

Commenting of the new route between Houston and Guyana, CEO Garvin Medera remarked: “Caribbean Airlines is actively resetting expectations for our customers with our new aircraft and various refreshed products to enhance the overall customer experience. CAL has been a consistent partner with Guyana and the Guyanese diaspora, so it’s only fitting that we mobilise resources to support the expanding commercial activity in Guyana.”

He added that this new operation will provide direct connectivity between Guyana and Houston, which is the base of many of the largest oil companies in the world. Another plus, he said is that customers also have the option to connect to Port of Spain for business and leisure.

CAL is pushing to expand its reach as it emerges from the COVID-19 crisis, announcing recently that it is in talks with Qatar Airways over a cooperation agreement that potentially would allow each carrier’s passengers to connect to the other’s network via North American hubs Miami, New York Kennedy and Toronto Pearson.
