Up to late this afternoon (July 10), Ministry of Labour and Social Security officials were locked in a conciliation meeting with the management of the National Water Commission (NWC) and trade unions representing the workers.
The meeting, which began at 2:00 pm, is in a bid to resolve outstanding matters relating to the Public Sector Compensation Review Process, resulting in pending industrial action by the NWC workers who issued a 72-hour notice.
The notice expires on Tuesday evening (July 11) which could see water supply being disrupted for many Jamaicans.
The strike notice was given because a job evaluation exercise, expected to be implemented in November 2022, has not been done.
People have been encouraged to store water ahead of possible strike action if a resolution is not found.
