Head of the St Elizabeth Police Division, acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, says a body believed to be that of one of eight men who escaped from the Black River Police Station lock-up in St Elizabeth on June 19 was found.
He said that during a special operation on Monday, he and members of his team journeyed into the hills of St Elizabeth, where they searched an unfinished structure that looked like it was being occupied.
“It is believed that the men were using this location as a base. We have seen evidence that persons were here. We’ve seen things such as cellphones that were burnt, spoons, and liquor bottles, and important to note is that a body was also located in the nearby bushes. The body is in an advanced decomposed state and, therefore, we have contacted our forensic scenes of crime for it to be fully processed,” said Minto in a video posted on social media.
He continued: “The investigations will continue. From the information we have received, and intel that we’re getting, it is believed that the body is one of the escapees. I wouldn’t want to name him at this time, until we have gotten the scientific evidence. We will continue the search for the remainders, and we continue to make an appeal for them to surrender to the police and to turn themselves in with their attorneys.”
An escapee, Richard Brown, surrendered to the police on September 9.
The other men are identified as Alrick Hutchinson, charged with robbery; Dewar Williams, charged with illegal possession of a firearm and Kenneth Stewart, charged with illegal possession of a firearm, Anward Hines, charged with murder; Dean Simpson, charged with rape and robbery; and Javaughn Simms, charged with murder.
